Hudson Valley Hospital Center has joined the NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System in an affiliation that makes New York-Presbyterian Hospital the parent organization and co-operator of the 128-bed community hospital in Cortlandt Manor.
The northern Westchester hospital has been renamed NewYork-Presbyterian/Hudson Valley Hospital, the hospitals jointly announced on Wednesday. John C. Federspiel, the longtime head of Hudson Valley Hospital Center, will continue as president of the renamed hospital.
“We are excited to be able to offer residents of the Hudson Valley access to one of the most prestigious hospitals in the nation right here in their backyard,”™”™ Federspiel said in the announcement. “Our patients will have the comfort of knowing that they will have access to advanced specialized care and a direct connection to the best New York has to offer.”
Dr. Laura Forese, president of the NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System, said the New York City-based hospital plans to expand ambulatory and primary care programs in the communities served by the Cortlandt Manor hospital.
NewYork-Presbyterian has 2,600 hospital beds on its six campuses and academic affiliations with Weill Cornell Medical College and Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.
The Hudson Valley Hospital Center board of directors voted last August to pursue the affiliation with NewYork-Presbyterian, one month after Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville joined the New York City hospital”™s system as NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital.
The Bronxville hospital formerly was a member of the four-hospital Stellaris Health Network in Westchester, which disbanded in 2013 as its members looked to pursue partnerships with larger, well-financed metropolitan health care systems.
Former Stellaris members Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco and Phelps Memorial Hospital Center in Sleepy Hollow last year joined the North Shore-LIJ Health System, while White Plains Hospital has joined the Bronx-based Montefiore Health System.
This article has been updated to reflect that Hudson Valley Hospital Center was not a member of the Stellaris Health Network, as first reported.
Lower Hudson Valley Hospital was never part of Stellaris.
