Hudson River HealthCare, the Peekskill-based community health provider that serves the region’s medically underserved population, said Thursday it was recently awarded a $2.05 million grant from Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo that it will use to fight obesity, diabetes, heart disease and stroke in Westchester and Rockland counties.
The funds are part of a $7 million statewide grant distributed among four health care providers from the state Department of Health’s Local Initiatives for Multi Sector Public Health Action program, which aligns with current state health initiatives to improve statewide health care and how treatment is provided and delivered.
In a release, HRHCare president and CEO Anne Kauffman Nolon did not specify how or where the funds would be allocated, but said they would go toward “tackling the most persistent and devastating public health crises” currently facing New York.
“We look forward to using the funds to provide needed care and promote healthy living in Westchester and Rockland counties,” Nolon said.
HRHCare has five facilities in Westchester and Rockland counties: two in Yonkers as well as locations in Peekskill, Haverstraw and Spring Valley.
