Hudson Valley residents can all sleep better ”“ especially if they are suffering from insomnia ”“ knowing the Northern Dutchess Hospital Sleep Center in Rhinebeck has been accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) through 2015.
Sleep disorders are common, with as many as 40 million Americans suffering various troubles from insomnia to sleep apnea to narcolepsy.
“A sleep disorder often leads to problems involving a variety of other conditions, affecting your mood, blood pressure or heart health,” said Dr. Barbara Chatr-Aryamontri, medical director of the center. “That”™s why our sleep center diagnoses and treats the full spectrum of sleep disorders, to best provide for the whole person.”
The center is equipped to perform studies that measure a patient”™s brain waves, breathing patterns and heartbeat while sleeping to determine the incidence of disorders, such as sleep apnea and narcolepsy.
The AASM ensures that those in the field of sleep medicine provide excellent health care and enhance the awareness of sleep as an important element for health, public safety and quality of life. By successfully completing the accreditation process, the hospital has shown dedication to the advancement of sleep medicine, according to the AASM.
