Montefiore Medical Center plans to begin moving offices and about 850 jobs to Tarrytown in the third quarter after recently closing on its $33 million purchase of  the 300,000-square-foot Kraft Foods beverages research and development center at 555 S. Broadway.
Montefiore plans to relocate administrative and back office positions from its offices in Yonkers and the Bronx to the Tarrytown office complex. It will occupy 140,000 square feet and lease the remainder of the space back to Kraft, which employs 200 workers. Kraft in 2012 relocated the bulk of its beverages business unit to company headquarters in suburban Chicago.
Montefiore officials said its existing offices in Yonkers will be used to expand its information technology operations, leaving more space for clinical use at the hospital”™s four main campuses in the Bronx.
The 90-acre Tarrytown campus overlooks the Hudson and includes three main buildings built in the 1950s, more than 700 parking spaces, a fitness center and cafeteria.
