It was a good night to be a Democrat in Westchester County.
Democrats controlled most of the state and federal seats last night, with Democratic challenger Sean Patrick Maloney defeating Republican incumbent Nan Hayworth in the 18th Congressional District race, 52 percent to 48 percent.
In the 93rd Assembly District, Democratic challenger and White Plains councilman David Buchwald defeated Republican incumbent Bob Castelli 53 percent to 47 percent, with 88 percent of precincts reporting.
In the race to replace longtime State Senator Suzi Oppenheimer in the 37th District, Democrat George Latimer defeated Republican Bob Cohen 55 percent to 45 percent.
Congresswoman Nita Lowey and Congressman Eliot Engel, both Democrats, cruised to re-election, while State Senators David Carlucci, a Democrat, and Greg Ball, a Republican, were re-elected. Senators Andrea Stuart Cousins and Ruth Thompson were also re-elected, running unopposed.
Assemblywomen Amy Paulin, Shelley Mayer, Sandy Galef, all Democrats, were re-elected as were Democrats Thomas Abinanti, Steven Otis, and Gary Pretlow. Republican Assemblyman Steven Katz was also re-elected.
