Carl Higbie, the founder of the Greenwich-based marketing and political consulting firm Ameriman LLC who joined the Trump administration last August as chief of external affairs for the Corporation for National and Community Service, resigned yesterday following a CNN KFile investigation of bigoted comments he reportedly made on several internet radio shows between 2013 and 2016 that ridiculed a wide swath of demographics.
Higbie is a Greenwich native and former Navy SEAL who first gained national prominence for his 2012 book “Battle on the Home Front: A Navy SEAL”™s Mission to Save the American Dream.” He served as an unpaid consultant to Trump”™s 2016 presidential campaign and was a ubiquitous presence on Fox News and CNN during the first part of 2017 as an advocate for the president”™s policies and conservative political principles.
The CNN KFile report highlighted comments Higbie reportedly made on the programs “Sound of Freedom,” “Global Patriot Radio” and “Warrior Talk Radio,” including remarks that black women think “breeding is a form of government employment,” Islam was “the ideology of a child molester” and soldiers suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder had “a weak mind.” Higbie also reportedly stated that he supported shooting illegal immigrants crossing the border in the face and the acceptance of same-sex marriage destroyed “the moral fiber of our country,” and he spoke about Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Rep. Nancy Pelosi with the desire to “just take both their heads and smack them together a couple of times.”
The CNCS is a federal agency that oversees national service initiatives including AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, the Social Innovation Fund and other national service initiatives. A spokesperson for the organization announced Higbie”™s resignation last night.
Higbie took to Twitter this morning to acknowledge what transpired, writing: “I”™m sorry. I”™m not sorry that my words were published, I am sorry that I said them in 2013. Those words do not reflect who I am or what I stand for, I regret saying them. Last night I informed the WH that I was resigning so as not to distract from POTUS”™ many success. #noexcuses”
Thank you for bringing the national discussion to a local level- great job!
