Rockland Community College has received a $1.1 million grant over the next five years to help underserved students through a program with the U.S. Department of Education.
The money will benefit 140 students with college support services to help its low-income, veteran, disabled and first-generation students graduate with a degree in higher education, according to an announcement from U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey”™s office.
The services offered will include tutoring, counseling, career and academic advising, financial aid counseling and workshops.
Last month, Westchester Community College and Mercy College received a combined $532,338 through the same federal program, known as the TRIO Student Support Services Program. The program was created in 1968 around the same time as two other educational opportunity programs in order to help keep students in college and increase graduation rates.
