New York state is investing $20 million in a two-year program to help cities combat housing problems.
Up to 40 cities will get access to a data platform that combines and analyzes code enforcement records, tax liens, and fire and police records.
The information can be used to revitalize housing in blighted neighborhoods, according to a news release from Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman.
The state”™s legal settlements last year with Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs over their roles in the housing crisis will pay for the Cities RISE program.
The state is working with two national nonprofit organizations: Enterprise Community Partners of Columbia, Maryland, and Local Initiatives Support Corp. of New York City.
Cities with populations of at least 25,000 are eligible for grants. Applications are due by May 5.
