Motor vehicles can now be sold on the town of Greenburgh’s section of Central Park Avenue after the town council amended a section of its code previously prohibiting sales.
The change comes as a way to increase tax revenue for the town and its school districts, help fill storefront vacancies and increase activity on the busy corridor, according to Democratic Town Supervisor Paul Feiner. “I see no downsides to this new law; only positive,” Feiner said. “The dealerships create much needed jobs.”
Feiner, along with the four-person town board, approved the amendment, which will allow automotive dealers to obtain a special permit to sell vehicles in the mixed-use impact district of Central Park Avenue.
The Greenburgh portion of Central Avenue, as it is locally known, already features three automotive dealerships, but those businesses were there before the town zoning laws changed and prohibited them.
