Sorrento Importing Co., a family-owned Italian deli that has been a staple of Bridgeport”™s food scene since 1966, will be reopening in a new Fairfield location in November.
The establishment was forced to shut down its 2487 Main St. store in August after a fire destroyed the third floor of the apartment building located above the business. In a Facebook posting, the business”™ owners stated they did not want to leave their longtime home, but were unable to stay due to the damage created by the fire to the upstairs residences.
Instead, Sorrento Importing will be taking over the 1838 Black Rock Turnpike retail location previously occupied by Fine Arts Beauty Salon, a seven-minute drive from its former home.
An opening date has yet to be announced. However, in a nod to customers who may have overindulged in the generous servings of sandwiches, sausages and cheeses, Sorrento Importing also pointed out on social media that its new home is based between a Weight Watchers studio and an Anytime Fitness gym.
