The University of Connecticut”™s endowment arm is asking its money managers to yank funds linked to the Sudan, responding to the UConn chapter of Student Anti-Genocide Coalition.
University of Connecticut Foundation Inc. is directing the manager of its sole non-commingled fund to divest from companies on a watch list maintained by the Sudan Divestment Task Force (SDTF) and is sending letters to remaining investment managers of commingled funds to consider divestment.
According to a student newspaper, $1.5 million of UConn Foundation”™s $300 million in assets is linked to Sudan investments.
UConn Foundation is led by John Martin, who previously was vice president of university relations for the University of Bridgeport, where he received undergraduate and graduate degrees.
Connecticut is one of at least six states that have begun the process of eliminating Sudan investments from pension funds for state employees, along with New Jersey, Illinois and California.
SDTF has also conducting divestment campaigns at Yale University, the University of New Haven, Trinity College in Hartford, and Connecticut College in New London.
