University of Bridgeport”™s online degree programs have been named among the top in the nation, according to the U.S. News and World Report”™s “2014 Best Online Education Programs.”
This is the second consecutive year UB has been cited for its online offerings.
UB”™s IT program, which includes master”™s degree programs in computer science and technology management, was ranked 11th best in the nation. UB ranked 29th in both the online bachelor”™s and graduate engineering categories.
U.S. News based its standings on factors that included faculty credentials and training, academic and support services for students, applicants”™ GPAs and other admissions criteria, program reputation, technologies, student satisfaction and graduation rates. To be eligible for the rankings, programs had to offer 100 percent of their courses online. UB”™s first online course was in 1997; they were nutrition-themed offerings.
UB”™s online MBA program launches on Jan. 27, 2014 in conjunction with the rollout of the schools remade business school.
“We are very proud that our online programs have received recognition once again from U.S. News as we”™re committed to excellence and continuing to grow as a leader in online learning,” said Kris Bickell, UB”™s director of online learning. “To that end, we”™re adding more online degree programs while increasing the level of service in the form of instructional design, multimedia development, and social interaction in order to create even more engaging online courses and to accommodate growth.”
Sixty-two percent of colleges and universities currently provide so-called distance learning, up from 34.5 percent in 2002; and just under 10 percent of college and university students are enrolled in at least one online education course, according to UB, citing a Babson Survey Research Group study.
