Despite the hit to the wallet of many families throughout the state, some Connecticut colleges and universities disclosed plans to hike tuition an average of between 4 percent and 6 percent for the 2010-2011 academic year.
The University of Connecticut is increasing tuition 5.7 percent next year for state residents, and fees 4.5 percent. Western Connecticut State University and its sister CSU campuses are raising tuition 6.3 percent, and community colleges are hiking tuition 6.4 percent.
Yale University said it would increase its own overall tab 4.8 percent, including tuition, room and board, bringing its average cost to just shy of $50,000 for the year.

Fairfield University is launching a Ph.D. program in nursing this fall, the university”™s first doctorate program.

The university is accepting applications for the coming fall, and is accepting nurses who have either bachelor”™s or master”™s degrees in the field.
The program is intended to help nurses toward career opportunities as executives in health-care organizations; managers of quality initiatives; directors of clinical programs; or faculty in nursing schools.
Fairfield University”™s School of Nursing also offers master”™s programs in clinical nurse leadership; healthcare management; and nurse anesthesia programs.
