State regulators approved Stamford Hospital”™s plan for a $223 million, 290,000-square-foot building for a new emergency room.
The hospital”™s parent organization Stamford Health System Inc. won approval from the Connecticut Office of Health Care Access to build the new emergency department at the hospital”™s main campus at 30 Shelburne Road in Stamford, as well as space for other clinical services.
Stamford Hospital plans to pay for the project through $100 million in tax-exempt bonds from the Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority; $99 million in operating funds; and $25 million in donations via a future capital campaign.
The original emergency room opened in 1965 to handle 25,000 patients annually; last year, the department treated more than 46,000 patients, a 2 percent increase from the year before.
The hospital had also asked permission to acquire a third CT scanner for use in the emergency room. OHCA instructed the hospital to reapply for the $1.5 million machine when the emergency department is slated to open in 2015.
Stamford Hospital will also get a new power plant.
BRIDGEPORT HOSPITAL
OHCA approved Bridgeport Hospital”™s request to change the proposed location of a radiation clinic within Trumbull, with the center now to be located at 5520 Park Ave. rather than at 15 Corporate Drive as originally planned.
Â
Bridgeport Hospital asked for the change after assuming ownership of Radiation Oncology of Southern Connecticut.
CONSTELLATION HEALTH
Constellation Health Services has acquired Mature Health Choices of Milford, adding geriatric care to its services.
Norwalk-based Constellation Health did not state financial terms of the deal. Mature Health was run by Phyllis Boynton, who said she merged her company with Constellation Health to be part of a bigger team in providing services in Fairfield and New Haven counties.
“Our vision for Constellation is to be the first call people make to plan or problem-solve about the current or future needs of a vulnerable or frail family member,” said Joanne Walsh, CEO of Constellation Health. “Although (geriatric care management) is in its early stages of development as a profession, I firmly believe that in the near future, many people will have a GCM relationship on par with those one has with their doctor, lawyer or accountant.”
