Snow storm begins path across Northeast

Snow began falling around 7 a.m. in Fairfield County, in what could be the beginning of a historically large blizzard.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced Feb. 8 a state of emergency, saying residents should prepare for it to snow up to two feet Friday and Saturday.

Malloy said some roads may close as early as 12 p.m. and that residents should be home or in a safe place by 4 p.m. Metro-North rail lines are adding extra trains in the afternoon and are anticipating delays and cancellations in the evening.

Connecticut Light and Power and United Illuminating are preparing for outages for 10 percent of their customers.
