Rutgers University researchers reported a moisturizer cream made by Beiersdorf AG appears to induce skin cancer in mice in laboratory tests, along with competing products sold by three other companies.
Germany based Beiersdorf has its U.S. headquarters in Wilton, with 450 employees there at last report.
The Rutgers study, published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, tested Beiersdorf”™s Eucerin Original Moisturizing Cream, as well as Dermabase from Minneapolis-based Paddock Laboratories Inc.; Dermovan from Fort Worth, Texas-based Healthpoint Ltd.; and Vanicream from Rochester, Minn.-based Pharmaceutical Specialties Inc.
Experts stated that there was no evidence normal use resulted in an increased risk of skin cancer in humans.
