The third annual “40 Under 40” awards program will recognize 40 young business leaders under 40 who are helping build Fairfield County”™s future economy and quality of life at a reception and awards ceremony June 21 at the University of Connecticut”™s Stamford campus.
More than 80 young business people from around the county were nominated for the award, said Barbara Stewart Hanlon, associate publisher at the Fairfield County Business Journal. The 40 award recipients represent a cross section of young professionals and executives in businesses and not-for-profits in such fields as architecture, finance, health care, marketing, retail and technology. “The event is an opportunity to meet and mingle with up-and-coming business people from Fairfield County,” she said.
Tickets for the limited-space reception are $40, $25 for chamber of commerce members. Reservations can be made by calling (914) 694-3600, ext. 3027.
The 40 business leaders were chosen using this criteria:
? Anyone between 21 and 39 and who works in Fairfield County was eligible to be considered by the panel of representatives from the Business Journal, the dozen sponsoring chambers of commerce and other sponsors.
? Candidates were an owner, founder, partner, president, chief executive, financial or operating officer, or board chair or responsible for making decisions within a company or not-for-profit.
? Candidates, who will be announced at the June 21 reception, were judged on business accomplishments, leadership qualities and personal business improvement efforts.
“Being a successful young professional requires focus on one”™s goals, a personal drive to contribute to both the business and the business community, and the commitment to principles of professional conduct,” said Carol Wilder-Tamme of the Darien Chamber of Commerce. “The 40 Under 40 Awards are a meaningful way to reward young professionals who are so committed.”
The 5 p.m. family-friendly event will be catered by Jenna Marie”™s Catering at UConn”™s Stamford campus. In the past, recipients have brought spouses and children to the reception and awards presentation. Photographs and biographies of the 40 professionals will be featured in a Fairfield County Business Journal supplement that will be available at the reception.
“It”™s great that the Journal and the chambers put this program together each year to salute these up-and-coming business people,” said Steve Bull, president of the Greater Danbury Chamber of Commerce. “It”™s incumbent upon us to cultivate people like this because they”™re the business leaders of tomorrow.”
Representatives of the dozen chambers of commerce will present the awards to recipients from the communities the chambers represent.
