DARIEN — Greenwich’s Raphaël’s Bakery has expanded into Darien’s Heights Crossing mixed-use development.
On Sunday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. there will be a grand opening celebration at the 370 Heights Road store. The bakery is part of the new Heights Crossing housing and retail development, which also includes The Goddard School, Chipotle Mexican Grill, and Garden Catering.
Raphaël Dequeker, originally from Brittany, France, is a third-generation pâtissier/boulanger whose earliest memories are of cutting strawberries in his parents’ pastry shop. At just 16, he began an apprenticeship under a Maître Chocolatier in Paris and went on to train alongside culinary legends such as Alain Ducasse and Pierre Hermé, working in some of France’s most celebrated kitchens, including Le Louis XV in Monaco and Ladurée in Paris.
In 2003, Dequeker moved to Greenwich with his wife Charlotte and their three sons, for a job as head pastry chef at Valbella. After nearly two decades there, he took the leap to open his own bakery at 146 Mason St., Greenwich, in 2020.
“We’re so excited to grow and open this new location in Darien,” Dequeker said. “What you taste at Raphaël’s Bakery is the product of passion, fine ingredients, hard work, and a lifetime of experience. Everything we make is baked on-site — with heart.”
Charlotte Dequeker manages operations behind the scenes, while their sons — Kelian, Bastian, and Titouan — are often found behind the counter.
