After saying it would leave Connecticut two months ago, gun maker PTR Industries, Inc. officially announced plans to relocate to South Carolina near Myrtle Beach.
The firm is the first to leave Connecticut after the passage of stricter gun legislation, which includes a ban on several military-assault weapons and magazine firearms that hold more than 10 rounds.
The gun manufacturer, which employs about 45 employees in Connecticut, contends the legislation has pushed the company out of the state to seek a more “gun friendly” headquarters.
In South Carolina, the company has agreed to maintain a workforce of 145 employees and invest $8 million in its facilities through 2025, according to news reports. Details of the company’s incentive package remain unknown.
“The rights of the citizens of Connecticut have been trampled upon,” officials said in an April press release. “With a heavy heart but a clear mind, we have been forced to decide that our business can no longer survive in Connecticut ”“ the former Constitution state.”
