More than 1.52 million residents, representing nearly 74 percent of all Connecticut registered voters, turned out for last month’s general election, according to Secretary of the State Denise Merrill.
Connecticut ranked 7th in the nation in voter turnout despite the effects of Hurricane Sandy, Merrill said in a report released Nov. 28 certifying the state’s 2012 election results.
The turnout was slightly below that of the 2008 general election, when 78.14 percent of the state’s registered voters participated.
“Despite the challenges we faced following Hurricane Sandy, Connecticut voters came to the polls with a very strong turnout,” Merrill said in a prepared statement.
