The U.S. Department of Education”™s Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) Title V Program has awarded a nearly $2.3 million grant to Norwalk Community College (NCC).
The five-year grant, totaling $2,297,660 and entitled “The Student Success Collaborative: Transforming Student Pathways to Credentials and Beyond,” is designed to develop a comprehensive advising system from admission to degree completion through virtual and on-site facilities.
NCC will redesign the orientation process and build a curriculum and academic pathways around seven critical success skills: academic planning, career planning, transfer planning, learning strategies, information literacy, financial strategies and interpersonal abilities.
NCC”™s Hispanic student population has steadily grown from 29.8 percent of the student body in Fall 2012 to 33.9 percent in Fall 2015.
“NCC is justifiably proud of its diverse student population,” remarked NCC President David L. Levinson, Ph.D. “Our students hail from 80 countries and speak 54 different languages. This grant will bring resources to the college which will help us create a culture of inclusion and excellence through intellectual inquiry, open dialogue, multicultural awareness and lifelong learning.”
