New York City and Bridgeport will likely face some of the worst traffic of any U.S. city on Labor Day, according to traffic intelligence platform INRIX.
The cities are the fourth- and fifth-most congested cities in the country, INRIX said.
“Between Bridgeport being a ‘gateway’ between New England and the Mid-Atlantic, and recent trends and increases in consumer spending indicating that travelers will not fear gas prices, we’re predicting major delays as travelers leave town for Labor Day,” said Jim Bak, INRIX director of community relations, in a press release. “Best bet is to leave before lunchtime or wait for the evening, if you’re planning to get out on Friday. Travelers thinking they’ll avoid traffic by waiting for Saturday to depart will have better luck if they get on the road right after breakfast.”
The worst times to travel through New York City will likely be between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Friday and around 2 p.m. Saturday, INRIX said. The best time to travel will be before 12 p.m. or after 8 p.m. Friday and before 11 a.m. on Saturday.
The worst times to travel through Bridgeport will likely be between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday and between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday. The best times to travel will be before 12 p.m. or after 8 p.m. Friday and before 12 p.m. Saturday.
