
M&T Bank will continue its winddown this spring of Stop & Shop branches it inherited from its acquisition of People’s United Bank in 2022, according to a bank statement last week.
The bank, which has Connecticut headquarters in Bridgeport, confirmed it would close eight branches inside the supermarkets with the first four closing April 16 in Hamden (2331 Dixwell Ave.), Stratford (200 East Main St.), Simsbury (489 Bushy Hill Road) and Vernon (50 Windsorville Road. The other four closures will happen April 30 in Milford (1364 East Town Road), Wilton (5 River Road), Bridgeport (4531 Main St.) and Westport (1790 Post Road E.).
“As the needs of our customers continue to evolve, we are committed to adapting our branch network to best serve our communities,” the bank said in a statement. “Our dedication to our colleagues, customers and communities in Connecticut remains unwavering, and we have every confidence that by investing in new branches, we will deliver best-in-class advice and guidance that more closely aligns with the needs of those we serve.”
As of Jan. 12, M&T Bank has 155 branches and ATMs in Connecticut. Of those, 53 are located in Fairfield County.
