Give them shelter
More than 80 animal lovers gathered at the home of Ann and Steven Tighe in Bronxville Feb. 28 to rais awareness and funds for the New Yonkers Animal Shelter, which the city has launched and bonded for $2.3 million. The fundraising campaign is a public-private effort to help reach the total cost of the shelter of more than $4.3 million. Groundbreaking is slated for the fall.
Residents of square-mile Bronxville and city-sized Yonkers share commercial districts, the same rolling hills and, as the Tighe event showcased, a common concern for animals. One guest said, “Though most of the guests were from Bronxville, their presence shows how passionate people are about animals.” Honored guest Yonkers Mayor Philip Amicone was one of the exceptions to the all-village rule and he remarked how pleased he was to gather such support for the shelter from outside the city.
“If I could, I would adopt every stray in the world, but I can”™t,” Ann Tighe said. “It”™s a love of animals and wanting to do more and help in a meaningful way. An event like this, I hope, will inspire my close friends and people they know to express their love for animals, as well.” For more information or to make a donation, visit newyonkersanimalshelter.org.
