Girl Scouts from local troops around Fairfield will visit 14 different departments, meet local political leaders, and learn about everything that goes into running a town during the day-long event on April 24.
The traditional visits began more than 20 years ago, and is designed to help the Scouts learn more about what goes into running an actual municipality and explore careers as well. Planned visits include Fairfield First Selectman Bill Gerber’s office, Animal Control, Parks & Recreation, Building & Maintenance, Engineering/Planning and Zoning, Finance/Comptroller, Health Department, Library, Senior Center/Social Services, Tax Collector, and Public Works.
“Girl Scouts in Government Day is a wonderful event where Fairfield Girl Scouts in grades 5 and up learn about the Town of Fairfield and its officials and shadow them for a few hours, learning about that department’s role in our Town government,” said Wendy Carroll, Service Unit Manager for Fairfield Girl Scouts in a prepared statement.
