Addressing cancer”™s human side

Old Greenwich resident Fran Becker, a licensed clinical social worker and manager of cancer support services at Stamford Hospital”™s Bennett Cancer Center, has been named the 2013 Oncology Social Worker of the Year by the ASSOCIATION OF ONCOLOGY SOCIAL WORK. The award recognizes an oncology social worker who provides exemplary commitment to the delivery of compassionate patient care. Becker is responsible for all of the supportive programs and services the center offers to its patients and their families.

Prudential Connecticut names ace sales execs

In July, Greenwich-based PRUDENTIAL CONNECTICUT REALTY”™s honors went to Jane Walters as Top Listing Agent Award winner; Anthony Parenti won Top Selling Award.

Trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly ”¦

Bryan L. LeClerc, of Fairfield and a partner with the law firm BERCHEM, MOSES & DEVLIN P.C., was named vice president for legal affairs for the Connecticut Yankee Council Board of Directors, BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA.

LeClerc has been involved with the Connecticut Yankee Council for more than 10 years in a variety of roles, including as a Scoutmaster. The Connecticut Yankee Council serves more than 17,000 youth members and nearly 4,600 adult volunteer leaders within five programs in Fairfield and New Haven counties and the town of Southington in Hartford County.

Greenwich residents stock New York larder

THE FOOD BANK FOR WESTCHESTER, the county”™s emergency food distribution network, recently announced Greenwich residents Christopher and Sean Murphy, owners of MURPHY BROTHERS CONTRACTING in Mamaroneck, N.Y. (which also serves Connecticut), will co-chair the organization”™s 23rd annual “An Evening in Good Taste” event to be held Thursday, Oct. 17, at 1133 Westchester Ave. in White Plains.

The event features food from 30 local restaurants, assistance from 100 volunteers and should attract 600-700 guests.

“We are thrilled that Chris and Sean Murphy are lending us their time and energy to co-chair ”˜An Evening in Good Taste,”™ which is one of our highest-attendance events each year,” said Ellen Lynch, executive director of the Food Bank for Westchester. “Chris and Sean are a dynamic team and are dedicated to raising awareness and dollars for this cause. We know that with them involved, the event will be even more successful than ever before.”

Legal bearings for sexual orientation

Jessica Grossarth, a partner with PULLMAN & COMLEY L.L.C., has been named chairwoman of the new Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Section of the CONNECTICUT BAR ASSOCIATION.

Grossarth was instrumental in creating the new section that will provide LGBT attorneys and their supporters with an opportunity to share concerns, communicate, network and build relationships with one another in a supportive forum. Grossarth practices in the areas of bankruptcy and creditors”™ rights.

Erick Russell, an associate in the litigation department at Pullman & Comley, will serve as treasurer of the new section.

Warehouse + 10 acres = $3.3M

CBRE GROUP announced an affiliate of CAMBRIDGE HANOVER INC., a private real estate investment firm based in New Canaan, has purchased an 81,500-square-foot office, production and warehouse facility located on 10 acres at 100 Trap Falls Road Extension in Milford. The property was purchased for $3.32 million from W.E. BASSET COMPANY.

Miller fills new slot at Westport Resources

WESTPORT RESOURCES, an independent investment and financial planning firm, recently named Eugene Miller as its director of family office services, a new position within the firm that serves ultrahigh-net-worth individuals and families.

THE INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF ARBORICULTURE bestowed high honors on a select group of arborists, educators, researchers and business owners as part of its 2013 Awards of Distinction program.

From West Hartford to Westport

NORTHSTAR WEALTH PARTNERS, a wealth management firm headquartered in West Hartford, announced the relocation of one of its founding partners and wealth advisers, Brandon Marinelli, to Westport.

Marinelli will join Bob Tricarico, another partner, managing the company”™s $1 billion-plus in collective assets, while growing the Westport office.

Marinelli plans to focus his new client acquisition efforts in Fairfield County. “One thing that Bob and I are firmly committed to is innovation, growth and that use of technology as a catalyst for communication and client care,” he said.

Investment outfit boasts five-star managers

WESTPORT RESOURCES, an investment and financial planning firm announced its founder and CEO, John Adams Vaccaro, and the COO of its wealth management division, Christopher DeLaura, have been named two of Westchester County”™s “Five Star Wealth Managers” for 2013 by independent research firm FIVE STAR PROFESSIONAL.

“Kudos for this award go to our entire private client group team of our portfolio managers, financial planning specialists and client service associates here at Westport Resources,” Vaccaro said. “I commend each of them for their hard work and dedication to our clients.”

Father-son attorneys move to a new shop

The lawyers of ELSTEIN & ELSTEIN P.C., a Bridgeport law firm, have joined the Trumbull office of Norwalk-based GOLDMAN, GRUDER & WOODS as partners.

Attorneys Bruce L. Elstein and his father, Henry Elstein, closed Elstein & Elstein as part of the deal.

“We are thrilled that the principals of Elstein and Elstein are joining with us,” said attorney Michael Goldman of Goldman, Gruder & Woods. “The addition of these well-known attorneys will significantly increase our presence in the region and allow us to serve an expanding client base. To accommodate this growth of our firm, we are adding office space at our Trumbull location.”

The Elsteins will join attorney and partner Stephen Wright in the firm”™s Trumbull office. Wright practices primarily commercial litigation, bankruptcy law and debtors”™ rights. The expanded Trumbull office at 105 Technology Drive will have space for five lawyers, six support staff and a conference room.

Real estate uptick causes firm expansion

The LAW OFFICES OF SUSAN KOHN L.L.C., is opening a second office, citing “the improving real estate market in Fairfield County.”

The new office, at 2000 Post Rd., Suite 200, Fairfield, “will increase our ability to assist clients in Fairfield with all types of real estate transactions,” Susan Kohn said. The firm”™s primary office is in Trumbull at 814 White Plains Rd.

“We opened the new office in Fairfield to be better positioned to help both buyers and sellers in that area as well as surrounding towns,” she said. “This new office will help speed the process for many people, allowing us to provide the same level of personal attention that our clients in the Trumbull area have come to expect.”
