DANBURY – Danbury firefighters will no longer be jolted out of sleep when a fire alarm rings. A new, updated station alerting system was recently launched that will enhance the department’s ability to serve residents with greater efficiency and safety.
“Keeping our city services updated is critical because it ensures residents are receiving the highest level of safety and efficiency possible,” said Erin Henry, public information officer for the City of Danbury. “Equally important is protecting the health and well-being of our firefighters, who face demanding and often hazardous conditions. By investing in modern tools and safer work environments, we’re not only improving the quality of service to residents but also making sure our firefighters go home healthy at the end of every shift.”
The system was in development and planning for more than four years to determine the best solution for the department’s needs. The US Digital Designs Phoenix G2 station alerting system utilizes the newest, cutting-edge technology that has been said is the most advanced station alerting system in the world. US Digital Designs is a subsidiary of Honeywell.
Some of its benefits include enhancing response times, improving communication capabilities, and providing firefighters with necessary modern tools to effectively serve the City of Danbury.
An added benefit to having the system is the health and wellness of the firefighters. The new modern technology features softer, heart-healthy alarms, including ramping tones and progressive lighting, rather than the jarring, high-decibel tones that previously jolted firefighters awake.
It has been noted that cardiovascular-related death is the leading cause of fatalities in the fire service, so this technology is a critical step forward in protecting the long-term health and wellness of firefighters.
To fund the station alerting system, the City of Danbury utilized $481,343.04 in federal ARPA funds. The comprehensive project totaled an investment of $1 million. The City of Danbury continues to reinforce its commitment to emergency personnel by strengthening essential services and ensuring first responders have the most effective and state-of-the-art tools available.
