As the federal government shutdown continues, Connecticut Foodshare’s board of directors has taken emergency action by authorizing $1 million in emergency funding to ensure families across Connecticut continue to have access to food.
These funds will help the nonprofit food bank:
- Expand food distributions for affected federal employees
- Provide additional support to our 600+ local partners and programs statewide
While programs like SNAP and WIC remain funded for now, a prolonged shutdown could threaten future benefits putting more than 400,000 Connecticut residents at risk of hunger, Foodshare officials stated in a press release.
“We are committed to meeting this challenge, but we can’t do it alone,” said Foodshare President and CEO Jason Jakubowski. “Your support helps ensure food is available for everyone who needs it, when they need it most.”
