Broken Promises of Westport, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing assistance to single-parent families, has announced the formation of a new Single Parenting and Child Development Advisory Group to aid in the group”™s mission.
The new Advisory Group will provide leadership and professional expertise to help develop and administer the group”™s support systems for families and their children, especially the financially burdened, as well as help professionals to better deal with family issues for those affected by hardships of separation, divorce and single parenthood.
Ingi Soliman, a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from The New School for Social Research and chairman of the group”™s governing committee, said that the group will be particularly helpful for families for who might otherwise not be able to afford the types of services being offered.
Specifically addressing the needs of working poor families, the group will offer educational scholarships, gift card financial support to cover a family”™s basic needs, and pre-school and day care assistance.
“Broken Promises represents the struggles of single parent families who are working hard but not able to have a chance at the American Dream due to financial stress and the need for further education,” said Richard Spangenberg, executive director of the Foundation. “Our mission is to help struggling single-parent families and their children by providing financial support and educational opportunities, to raise national awareness of the challenges they face and to effect positive change.”
