In the aftermath of a storm Thursday that caused significant destruction in parts of Bridgeport, city and state officials did not have immediate estimates on the amount of damage caused.
Weather officials by noon Friday were calling the event a tornado, with wind gusts nearing 80 miles an hour. Several buildings appeared to have been totaled, including the historic home of the one-time of Davidson”™s Home and Industrial Decorating on Main Street between Chapel and Gold streets.
About 24,000 customers of United Illuminating Co. were left without power after the storm struck.
