Ex-First Selectman Lindsey running for 24th state Senate seat
NEW FAIRFIELD – Former First Selectman Melissa Lindsey, a Republican, has announced her candidacy for the 24th District seat in the Connecticut State Senate, challenging Democratic incumbent Sen. Julie Kushner.
The 24th Senate District includes Danbury as well as portions of New Fairfield and Ridgefield.
“I’m running for State Senate because the people of our district deserve a voice in Hartford that truly represents them,” Lindsey said. “For too long, state government has been disconnected from the everyday concerns of families, parents, and small business owners. It’s time to restore common sense and put our communities first.”
Lindsey is a lifelong resident of New Fairfield and an active member of the community. She and her husband are raising their three children, Makayla, Samantha, and Liam, and continue to participate in local schools, youth sports, and community initiatives.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Western Connecticut State University. She has accumulated over 12 years of experience as a business professional and office manager, contributing to the operation of her family’s small business in Danbury.
In addition to her business experience, Lindsey has served as a substitute teacher, math and reading interventionist, and athletic coach. She has also volunteered in youth athletics. As coordinator of the New Fairfield Youth Field Hockey program, she expanded participation to include players from third through fifth grade, more than doubling enrollment.
CT United FC home matches to be in New Haven, Storrs
STAMFORD – With the CT United FC’s long-anticipated home opener approaching on April 11, the team on Friday announced it will host 2026 MLS NEXT Pro regular season matches at Morrone Stadium in Storrs and Reese Stadium in New Haven.
“Connecticut is a soccer state, and our goal from day one has been to earn the admiration of fans across it,” said André Swanston, co-owner of CT United FC. “By bringing the beautiful game directly to communities across Connecticut, we’re giving supporters the chance to see how we play in their own backyard, connect with the club, and help galvanize the state behind our long-term Major League Soccer ambitions.”
The team is still working out details on landing a permanent stadium in Bridgeport after Gov. Ned Lamont said the state would not provide any funding for a project in the city’s East End.
Located on the campus of the University of Connecticut, Morrone Stadium is named after legendary men’s soccer head coach Joe Morrone, who led the Huskies for 28 seasons (1969–1996), capturing the 1981 national championship and building UConn into a national power.
The venue also carries personal significance for CT United. Head Coach Shavar Thomas played under the lights of Morrone as a star center back for UConn, earning All-American honors. CT United co-owners André and Michelle Swanston are UConn alumni and competed in track and field for the Huskies.
CT United will host matches at Morrone Stadium on:
• April 11 vs. Columbus Crew 2
• April 26 vs. Philadelphia Union II
• May 3 vs. New England Revolution II
Situated on the campus of Yale University, Reese Stadium is named for William K. “Bill” Reese, a transformative figure in Yale athletics whose leadership helped shape the university’s modern athletic program.
