HARTFORD — Avelo Airlines opened its base of operations Thursday, Nov. 7 at Bradley International Airport with four new domestic routes and three more routes starting this week, the airline announced.
The airline will establish dual operations at Bradley as part of its regional Connecticut base alongside New Haven, initially positioning two aircraft in Hartford. This expansion represents further investment in the region and enables Avelo to significantly broaden its service across Connecticut.
“Avelo is proud to be Connecticut’s Airline. Our customers tell us they love flying Avelo, and we’re excited to make flying Avelo even more convenient for travelers across the state,” said Avelo Airlines Founder and CEO Andrew Levy.
“With 29 nonstop destinations, including two popular international locations, it’s easier than ever for travelers to seamlessly and reliably get to and from Connecticut. Our presence at BDL is a testament to the welcoming reception Avelo has enjoyed across the state.”
Avelo debuted at Bradley on Thursday with new nonstop routes to Charlotte / Concord (USA) and Wilmington (ILM) in North Carolina, while Friday it kicked off its inaugural flights to Daytona Beach and Orlando / Lakeland in Florida.
Avelo operates these routes twice a week utilizing Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft.
This week, Avelo will add Houston and its first scheduled international flights with service to Cancun and Montego Bay, Jamaica.
“Over the last several years, Bradley has implemented many major improvements that have resulted in this airport being ranked by leading travel analysts as one of the best in the nation,” Gov. Ned Lamont said. “The addition of Avelo Airlines at Bradley will only increase this airport’s reputation as one of the most convenient airports in the northeast. I look forward to Avelo’s continued growth in Connecticut.”
To support its base extension, the airline anticipates creating 80 more jobs in Connecticut aviation for individuals at all stages of their career including pilots, flight attendants, ground services, Customer support and more. New Haven is Avelo’s largest base – employing over 250 Crewmembers supporting eight aircraft which fly to 27 nonstop destinations.
Last week, Avelo celebrated three years of service at HVN, flying more than 2.7 million customers at Tweed. In that time, the airline has operated nearly 20,000 flights, has expanded to 27 nonstop destinations, and extended the New Haven fleet to eight Boeing Next-Generation 737s.
