The Connecticut Board of Regents installed the former president of the University of Connecticut as interim president, with the move winning the approval of Gov. Dannel P. Malloy.
Philip Austin, the longtime president of the University of Connecticut, will become interim president.
On Friday, Oct. 12, Robert Kennedy stepped down as president of the board due to pay raises he had approved for staff members, despite a pay freeze in effect for state workers instituted by Malloy. Kennedy had agreed promptly to rescind the raises.
Also resigning was Michael Meotti, executive vice president of the Board of Regents who had been awarded a large raise.
Philip Austin, the longtime president of the University of Connecticut, will become interim president. The Board of Regents oversees the Connecticut State University system and community colleges, but not UConn.
Malloy said Austin’s reputation is “beyond reproach,” and gave no timetable for the board filling the position on a permanent basis.
