Peoples United name survives in Mass.
An appeals court sided with People”™s United Financial Inc. in a trademark dispute, saying it could continue using the People”™s United Bank brand in western Massachusetts over the objections of PeoplesBank.
Holyoke, Mass.-based PeoplesBank had asked for an injunction to strip the People”™s United Bank brand from the company”™s Massachusetts branches. After a six-day proceeding, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ruled that PeoplesBank did not prove it will suffer irreparable harm.

IMS wins appeal
IMS Health won an appeal of a lawsuit contesting a Vermont law that would have restricted its ability to collect statistics on pharmaceutical drug sales, which Norwalk-based IMS uses to provide drug companies with competitive benchmarking data.
Other appellants included the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America; Verispan; and an affiliate of Wolters Kluwer Health.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ruled that the Vermont law would have violated IMS”™ freedom of speech. IMS and its co-plaintiffs lost a similar decision in the First Circuit stemming from cases in Maine and New Hampshire, and is considering an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Chaus to peddle Camuto
Under a licensing agreement with the Greenwich-based Camuto Group, Bernard Chaus Inc. will design women”™s footwear under the Vince Camuto brand in department stores and specialty retailers.
Vince Camuto was a co-founder of Nine West Group Inc. before founding Camuto Group in 2001.
New York City-based Chaus sells a range of working women”™s clothing under the Josephine Chaus brand and others.
