It”™s time once again for polo as Greenwich Polo Club, nestled in the town”™s verdant backcounty, begins another season, Sunday, June 4, with the East Coast Bronze Cup. The battle for the cup continues June 11 and 18. Then on June 25, it”™s the Silver Cup, followed by the Gold Cup July 9 and 16, the East Coast Open Aug. 27 and Sept. 10 and the Greenwich Cup and American Cup respectively on Sept. 17 and 24.
The club switches gears for show jumping with the Grand Prix of Greenwich Oct. 8. It”™s a recent addition to a club that was founded in 1981 by businessman, philanthropist, art collector Peter M. Brant as a vehicle for high-goal polo that has attracted the likes of Mariano Aguerre, Facundo Pieres, Hilario Ulloa, Nacho Figueras, Annabelle Gundlach, Nic Roldan and many other stars.
Matches begin at 3 p.m. but the venue opens at 1 p.m. to give everyone a chance for picnicking (food and beverage vendors are on-site); browsing at boutiques; and seeing and being seen in summer hatted finery. (No outside alcoholic beverages are permitted.)
