Fans of horse racing, mint juleps, and the silly hats known as fascinators who will be unable to attend the Kentucky Derby in person on May 4 should consider visiting Norwalk’s up-and-coming Wall Street neighborhood instead.
A pair of local restaurants with a Southern flair, including Greer Southern Table and BJ Ryan’s Banc House will host a block party on River Street featuring Derby themed events. Awards will be given for the best dressed and best hat, while the prerequisite juleps and Southern food will be served.
Live music and DJ sets are planned throughout. Those who want to play the ponies despite the distance from Churchill Downs can take advantage of a nearby off-tracking betting location as well.
The block party will be located immediately adjacent to the Norwalk Transit Hub, and organizers at the Wall Street Neighborhood Association note that the Yankee Doodle Garage will provide ample parking.
