PURA to investigate energy co.

Attorney General George Jepsen petitioned the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority to investigate Energy Plus Holdings L.L.C. for deceptive marketing tactics in soliciting customers.

According to complaints, Energy Plus offers a one-month “promotional rate,” which is generally higher than its competitors”™ standard prices, that after a month increases significantly, sometimes to as much as double the industry standard.

After reviewing several customer complaints and marketing materials that appear to follow a pattern of misrepresentation, the Attorney General has asked for an investigation to evaluate whether fines should be imposed or if the electric supplier”™s license should be terminated.
