Hospital honored for safety
Mount Vernon Hospital has been recognized by the New York chapter of the American College of Physicians for its patient safety efforts.
The hospital, a member of the Sound Shore Health System, was one of 11 hospitals statewide honored with the physician group”™s 2010 Quality Award for completing the Near Miss Patient Safety training, a two-year project that began in fall 2008.
Led by the hospital”™s department of medicine and medical residents, the training included understanding the complex anatomy of medical errors as well as encouraging the reporting of near-miss events. The project promotes patient safety through statewide, anonymous reporting of any occurrences that if not intercepted could have led to medical mistakes. The data will be used to develop additional safeguards for patients.
