PepsiCo Inc. stands with 12 other American companies that have joined the White House in a push to address climate change.
In announcing the American Business Act on Climate Pledge this week, the White House said it anticipates a total investment of $140 billion from the 13 businesses that will pursue low-carbon initiatives and create about 1,600 megawatts of renewable energy, among other goals.
The pledge, taken by Apple, Bank of America, Google, General Motors and others, is meant to show how private companies can reduce emissions and implement more sustainable business practices.
Purchase-based PepsiCo committed to six specific goals: expanding the use of sustainable farming practices by 500,000 acres before 2017; eliminating the company’s use of greenhouse gas refrigerant hydrofluorocarbon by 2020; using more alternative fuel vehicles in its fleet; achieving zero deforestation in supply chain operations by 2020; learning more about solar installations at its facilities; and increasing the use of recycled content in packaging.
In 2014, the 13 companies represented more than $1.3 trillion in revenue and a combined market capitalization of at least $2.5 trillion, according to the White House.
