A new report named MX Energy Inc. the sixth fastest-growing company in the country this decade, after it reported $704 million in revenue last year from $200,000 in startup funding in 1999.
Stamford-based MX Energy provides natural gas and electricity to 500,000 customers in New York, New Jersey, Texas and several other states. The company employs more than 200 people.
MX Energy was the top-ranked Connecticut entity on Entrepreneur magazine”™s annual “Hot 100” list of the fastest-growing companies in the United States. Using data from CentrisPoint, the magazine considered for inclusion companies started between 1999 and 2003 that had least $1 million in revenue last year, and whose founders are still involved. Corporate spinouts were not eligible for inclusion.
This year”™s list was topped by Orlando, Fla.-based Simply Self Storage followed by Chicago-based BlueStar Energy Services.
Norwalk-based marketing agency Media Storm L.L.C. landed 23rd with $119 million in revenue last year. Other Connecticut companies on the Hot 100 list included:
Ӣ Higher One Inc., 12th, a New Haven-based collegiate payments company;
Ӣ Virpie Inc., 25th, a Southbury-based staffing agency; and
Ӣ Edible Arrangements International Inc., a Wallingford-based food gift franchisor.
