Test sirens will sound throughout the four-county area near Indian Point Energy Center on Wednesday, the company that owns the nuclear power plant announced.
Entergy Corp. said the sirens will sound between 10:30 and 11 a.m. in Westchester, Rockland, Orange and Putnam counties. The sirens are being tested as part of the emergency notification system, Entergy said, and no action is required by residents in the area near Indian Point in Buchanan.
The sirens will ring for roughly four minutes.
In the event of an actual emergency, Entergy said, the sirens would alert residents to tune in to local radio and television stations for emergency directions. They are not necessarily evacuation sirens, Entergy said.
