General Electric Co. received a $1.4 billion contract to supply turbines to a wind farm in Oregon, reportedly the largest ever to be built in the United States, which will transmit power to California.
New York City-based Caithness Energy L.L.C. plans to install nearly 340 wind turbines at its Shepherd”™s Flat wind farm in Oregon, beginning in 2011. It will be the first installation of Fairfield-based GE”™s 2.5xl turbine in the United States.
GE credited California”™s renewable energy portfolio laws with making the project possible.
Stamford-based GE Energy Financial Services is investing in the project. The turbines will be assembled at a GE plant in Pensacola, Fla.
