Voters will be going to the polls today for primary contests that will select candidates to appear on the lines for various offices in the November elections. As is typical with primaries, voter turnout is likely to be comparatively low.
Statewide, New York Comptroller Thomas DiNapioli is seeking the Democratic nomination to run for another term. In 1986, he ran for the New York State Assembly and was elected to represent the 16th District in northwestern Nassau County for the next 20 years. He was named comptroller in 2007 by a bipartisan majority of the State Legislature. He was elected comptroller by New York’s voters in 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022.
DiNapoli is being challenged by Drew Warshaw and Raj Goyle for the Democratic nomination.

A major primary contest is in the New York 17th Congressional District where five candidates have been battling it out to go up against Republican incumbent Congressman Mike Lawler in the November election. Lawler’s seat is seen as one that is potentially vulnerable to being flipped into the Democrat column in November.

Five Democrats are seeking the nomination to oppose Lawler.
Cait Conley is a U.S. Army veteran. She served on the National Security Council and at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency under President Joe Biden.
Beth Davidson was elected to the Rockland County Legislature in 2024 after serving six years on the Nyack Board of Education.
Effie Guadalupe Phillips-Staley was elected to the Tarrytown Board of Trustees in 2021. Phillips-Staley is running on her experience in municipal office and as an executive of a nonprofit organization.
John Cappello and Michael Sacks also are running for the nomination to face Lawler.
Paul Finer is facing opposition from Barry McGoey in his bid for the nomination to run for another term as Greenburgh Town Supervisor. Feiner was first elected Greenburgh Town Supervisor in 1991. McGoey is an Ardsley Village Trustee and previously was a New York state court officer and Yonkers firefighter.
In North Castle, Supervisor Joseph Rende is seeking the nomination to run for another term against challenger Jose Berra.
In Larchmont, attorney Brigid Brennan and documentary filmmaker Jonathan Silvers are running against each other for the Democratic nomination for mayor.
Quite a bit of attention has been focused on two Congressional primaries in New York City. In the 12th Congressional District, eight candidates want the Democratic nomination to run for the seat currently held by Rep. Jerry Nadler. They include: State Assembly members Alex Bores and Micah Lasher; Kennedy family member Jack Schlossberg; George Conway who often is seen as a TV commentator and who is the former husband of Republican activist and former Trump administration official Kellyanne Conway; Laura Dunn; Chris Diep; Nina Schwalbe; and Patrick Timmins.
In New York’s 10th Congressional District, former New York City Comptroller Brad Lander, who has been endorsed by Mayor Zohran Mamdani, is trying to win the nomination away from incumbent Rep. Dan Goldman.
