A panel of experts nominated the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk as one of the top 20 aquariums in the country for a poll being run by USA Today. Fans will have until May 12 to vote for their favorite aquariums with winners announced on May 20.
“Aquariums reveal the hidden wonders of the world’s oceans, lakes, and waterways in fun, exploratory settings. The best aquariums also play a vital role in animal conservation by participating in rescue efforts and marine advocacy,” the poll’s description reads.
Both the Mystic Aquarium and New England Aquarium are also in the running.
At the time of writing the Maritime Aquarium, which is noted for being the only aquarium dedicated to providing education on the ecosystems of Long Island Sound, stood at eleventh place, just below the threshold to make the 10 best list. The Mystic Aquarium stood at seventh place.
