The 24th annual Long Island Sound Citizens Summit will be held Friday at the Harbor Club at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport.
This year’s theme is “Coming back from the brink,” which will focus on nitrogen pollution in the Long Island Sound, its economic, health and environmental impacts on surrounding communities and how to curb the problem going forward.
Regional scientists and other state leaders will discuss the economic impact of this pollution on communities in Connecticut and New York that border the sound. Speakers will include Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch, New York Assemblyman Steve Otis, Environmental Protection Agency representatives and university experts from both states.
Connecticut State Sen. Ted Kennedy Jr. is scheduled to give the keynote address. The event will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will feature 26 panelists total.
Save the Sound, a bi-state program of Connecticut Fund for the Environment and the Long Island Sound Study with support from the New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission hold the annual summit.
