A program for Hispanic small business owners will offer the opportunity to discuss growth strategies with bilingual professionals.
“It”™s part networking, but the goal is to have one-to-one time with professionals who can offer business guidance and support in their fields,” said Diana Costello, a spokeswoman for Westchester County. “What”™s unique is the bilingual setting.”
The presenters include Steve Alfasi, a trusts, estates and guardianship lawyer in White Plains; Â Bernadette Schopfer, director of taxation at Maier Markey & Justic accountants; Julieta McPherson, vice president of lending at Community Capital New York; and Richard Hyland, professor of global business at Westchester Community College.
The free seminar will be presented three times, on Saturdays from 2 to 4 p.m. They are scheduled for May 21, at the Westchester Community College Peekskill Extension Center for the Digital Arts, 27 N. Division St., Peekskill; June 4, Westchester Community College, 8510 Mall Walk, Yonkers; and June 11, Family Christian Center, 592 Main St., New Rochelle.
Nearly one-fourth of Westchester County was classified as Hispanic in the 2010 U.S. Census. Nearly 17,000 firms, or 15 percent of 112,000 firms in Westchester, identified themselves as Hispanic or Latino in the Census’ 2012 Survey of Business Owners.
The program is sponsored by the county Office of Economic Development, in partnership with the Hispanic Advisory Board and Westchester Community College”™s Gateway to Entrepreneurship.
