The Mid-Hudson Regional Economic Development Council will meet today at 3:30 p.m. on the Landmark at Eastview life sciences campus to endorse priority development projects it will recommend for state funding in the fifth annual round of regionally based funding awards from Albany.
Ten regional councils across the state will compete for state agency grants, loans and tax credits for businesses, nonprofits and muncipalities in their respective regions. The awards, totaling up to $750 million, will be announced in December.
The meeting will be at the Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. office at 777 Old Saw Mill River Road ”“ Building 745 ”“ on the Landmark campus in Greenburgh.
Dr. Leonard S. Schleifer, Regeneron president and CEO, serves as co-chairman with Marist College President Dennis J. Murray of the 21-member council representing Westchester, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan and Ulster counties.
A spokesman at Empire State Development, the state agency administering Gov. Andrew Cuomo”™s regional economic development initiative to create jobs and spur business growth statewide, said today”™s Mid-Hudson council meeting also will include updates on the region”™s long-term revitalization plan that will be submitted to Albany for the state”™s new $1.5 billion Upstate Revitalization Initiative. Mid-Hudson and six other upstate councils will compete for three awards of up to $500 million each.
