A Norwalk man was sentenced to four months in prison for his involvement in an illegal sports booking operation based in Stamford and Hamden, Conn.
According to a federal investigation, Frank Potolicchio, 34, of Norwalk had been involved in a large-scale booking operation in which gamblers placed bets on offshore gambling websites such as 44wager.com, based in Costa Rica.
The gambling clubs in Stamford and Hamden were said to be under the control of the Gambino Crime Family, and generated nearly $1.7 million in just over a year during 2011.
The investigation into the activity of Potolicchio and 19 others, was lead by the FBI Fairfield County Organized Crime Task Force, Internal Revenue Service and Stamford Police Department. Potolicchio plead guilty in February.
