FAIRFIELD – A Bridgeport man has turned himself in to police in connection with a series of antisemitic vandalism incidents across town last month, Fairfield Police reported.
John Kuhn, age 68, turned himself at Fairfield Police Headquarters Sept. 18 where he was arrested in connection with the hate crime graffiti.
He was charged with the following offenses:
- Three counts of intimidation based on bigotry or bias 3rd degree
- Criminal mischief in the first degree
- Three counts of criminal mischief 2nd degree
The court set bond of $30,000 and he appeared before the court the same day.
According to police, over the course of August multiple locations in Fairfield were defaced with graffiti depicting the Star of David altered with swastika-like tails. These incidents caused collectively approximately $3,000 in damages. Similar incidents were also reported in neighboring communities as well.
Through a comprehensive investigation, Fairfield Police detectives identified Kuhn as a suspect. Following interviews, it was determined that his actions were motivated by current events between Israel and Palestine.
The Fairfield Police Department strongly condemns these acts of hate and vandalism.
“Any display of racist, antisemitic, or discriminatory behavior has no place in our community,” said Sgt. Jenna Wellington. “We would like to thank members of the community who promptly reported these incidents and shared surveillance footage or information to assist in the investigation. Community cooperation was instrumental in bringing this case to a successful resolution.
