LiRo Engineers Inc. will lead a consortium that will oversee design services at Playland amusement park in Rye, for nearly $5 million.
The county park ”“ opened in 1928 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places ”“ is undergoing a $62 million makeover.
Requests for proposals were sent to nine engineering and design firms in May. Three responded, and in July the Westchester County Professional Selection Board chose LiRo, based in Syosset, Long Island, for a $4,949,131. The county board of legislators approved the contract on Aug. 4.
The deal is part of the county”™s public-private partnership with Standard Amusements LLC of Manhattan. The county has committed to spending $32 million on renovating infrastructure, rides, games, concessions and the shoreline over the next few years.
Standard has agreed to spend $30 million on new rides and attractions, restaurants, picnic areas, buildings and grounds. It will run the park for 30 years.
The LiRo contract has three major elements. Design services will cover tasks such as preparing specifications and construction estimates, so that the county can award construction contracts.
